It thrives over sandy and muddy seabeds, typically at depths reaching up to around 385 metres. The fish grows to lengths of roughly 25\u201350 centimetres, giving fillets that are a practical size for both commercial and home kitchens. Its flesh is notably delicate and fine-textured, with a pale white colour that holds beautifully when cooked.
